The development of more efficient breeding programs depends of a better agreement on standard inheritance and genetic action involved in the control of interest traits. For better understanding the genetic control of interest traits, in the soybean population of Bioagro breeding programs in the Universidade Federal de Viçosa, the present work was carried with the following objectives: evaluate the inheritance for the characteristic protein content in soybean grain, comparing generations F2 and F3; esteem parameters of variability genetic, heritabilities and correlations among eleven agronomic traits in soybean, in the F3 population; predict the genetic progresses comparing different selection procedures. The genotypes populations of soybean used in this work had been gotten of the crossing among UFVS 2012 (genotype with low protein content, around 35%) and CS3035PTA276-1-5-2 (genotype with raised protein content, around 46%). Two hundred and seven F2 plants had been used for attainment the same number of F3 families. The experiment consisted of three repetitions or blocks, each family of F3 plants was sown in three repetitions. The heritabilities in the restricted direction for the character protein content in grain, was calculated by the regression father/son according to Smth and Kinman achieving the value of 43.40%. Beyond these aspects, the comment of significance in the average square of the F3 families is indicative of genetic variability indicating the possibility of selection of superior genotypes for high protein content. After this stage, the components of the genetic variation had been esteemed, the heritabilities in ample direction and the correlations for eleven interesting agronomic traits in the soybean, number of days for bloom (NDF); number of days for maturation (NDM); height of the plant in the maturation (APM); height of the first pod (APV); number of knots in the maturation (NNM); number of pods for plant (NVP); number of seeds for plant (NSP); seeds´ weight for plant (PRO); weight of 100 seeds (PCS); protein content in the grain (PTN); oil content in the grain (OLEO). The gotten results had shown that bigger values of heritabilities had been verified for traits NDM, NNM, PCS, PTN and OLEO. In the variance analysis the existence of significant genetic variance was verified by test F 1% to eleven traits evaluated in the families F3, being indicative of genetic variability in the population for the traits. In its last stage of the present work had been considered as main characteristic the production of grains, the protein content and the oil content in the grain. The strategies of selection used were selection based on indices of Smith and Hazel (SH), Mulamba and Mock (MM), Pesek and Baker (PB) and Direct selection (SD). The biggest values had been gotten by the direct selection for the trait seeds´ weight for plant (PRO) (51.93%), followed for the indices MM (50.5%) and (SH (49.18%), direct selection on the character oil content in the grain (OLEO) (17.4%), index PB (- 3.24) and presenting the lower values of total profits, direct selection on the character protein content in the grain (PTN) (- 8.26%). For the genotypic correlations´ unfolding in indirect effect, of primary variable NDF, NDM, APM, APV and NNM, on the main traits PRO, PTN and OLEO was possible to observe for the traits PRO, greater of total correlation with variable NDM (0.71), being that most of this value (0.51) was caused by the direct effect of NDM. For PTN, the total effect of correlation for all the primary traits had presented negative values. However, the trait APM supplied positive values (0.16) on PTN, indicating the possibility of positive profits for protein content with selection practiced on APM. For the character OLEO, all the effects of correlation with auxiliary traits had presented positive values, being a better result in using NDM (0.43).
