The objective of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of weeds, the nutritional state, and the yield of common bean grown on straw from the intercrop of maize with Brachiaria brizantha cultivated in the summer. The treatments were set up in subdivided plots and arranged in complete randomized blocks with four replications. The treatments in the plots were represented by six levels of remainder straw from the maize - B. brizantha interCrop (9.3; 8.4; 8.0; 7.0; 6.9, and 6.3 t ha^-1 of straw), the straw from maize sole crop (4.1 t ha^-1) and of B. brízantha (12.7 t ha^-l), and a control, which consisted in bare soil. The treatments of the subplots consisted in the absence or the application of the herbicides fomesafen + bentazon + fluazifop-p-butil applied in post-emergence to common bean. The occurrence of weed species, the nutritional state, stand, and grain yield of the common bean were evaluated. The populations of the weed species Bidens pilosa, Euphorbia heterophylla, Raphanus sativum, and Sonchus oleraceus were suppressed by the treatments with 3. brz'zantha straw from the intercrop and the sole crop, presenting equivalent results as obtained by the herbicide treatments. Highest P, N, and K levels were observed in the common bean grown on B., brizantha straw, independently of the use of herbicides. The mean yield of the treatments was high; however, yields obtained with straw of B. brízantha in intercrop with maize outstripped the others.
