In Brazil, many forester companies are finding it difficult to develop precise plans for the management of their forests, which is affected mainly by the stage of forest harvesting. This entails a great expenditure of resources and increases the production cost of wood. This dissertation aims to validate, through operational studies and technology improvements in the management of specific areas, forest harvesting and environmental conservation jointly. Chapter 1 aimed at planning the costs of roads using GIS in forest harvesting in order to create models which introduce better management of the forest complex, maximizing returns in a consistent and organized manner using the ArcGIS software. The road network plan was based on surveys of the horizontal and vertical geometries. To help with the planning of the harvest, we identified the areas of collection - divided into modules - and the permanent preservation areas (PPA), from initial data of the research area. The results showed the effectiveness of GIS tools in determining the classification system of forest roads, directly reflecting the costs of internal and main roads, represented by US$594 and US$1,220. The digital model of crop and forest planning (MDCPF) adds improvements in the process of timber harvesting plans, facilitating the organization of the modules collection, identification and monitoring of the total planted areas and conservation units (APP and RL). Chapter 2 aimed to examine and quantify the influence of slope (lowland and mountain) and of planting space (3m x 2.5m, 3m x 3.33m and 3m x 4.0m) on the productive capacity of the harvester and forwarder on the mechanized harvesting system on a stand of eucalyptus in the first rotation. The technical analysis was based on the study of time, movements, and operating income. The elements that composed the operating cycle were identified and analyzed, besides quantifying the productivity and cost of the machines that were the object of this study. The results indicated that the yield of the machines (harvester and forwarder) tend to be greater when increasing the spacing and reducing the slope to some extent, because the data showed an exponential pattern. The change in spacing, on average, could impact the cost of the order by 11% and 2% higher if the option is the use of a 3m x 2.5m and 3m x 3.33m spacing, compared to the 3m x 4m spacing. Regarding the slope, the depth of this negative impact generated by the slope was about 11% compared to the lowlands.
