Three methodologies for the regionalization of the minimum reference flow rates (Q 7,10 , Q 90 and Q 95 ) were evaluated for the sub-basin of Paranã river: 1) ELETROBRÁS (1985) is based on regression equations applied to hydrologically homogenous regions; 2) CHAVES et al. (2002) apply the automatic interpolation and extrapolation techniques in ambient of the geographical information systems; and 3) the specific flow rate is calculated based on the drainage areas in fluviometric gaging stations located upstream and downstream of the section where the rate flow will be calculated. The physical characteristics used in the regionalization by ELETROBRÁS (1985) method were the drainage area, the main river length, the drainage density, the average slopings of the basin and main river, extracted from the hydrological consistent elevation digital model of the Paranã river sub-basin. The annual total precipitation and the precipitations of the driest semester and trimester were the climatic characteristics used. The distribution probabilistic models of extreme events tested for the minimum flow rate series were: Log-normal at two and three parameters, Pearson III, Log-Pearson III, and Weibull. After the identification of the probabilistic model with better adjustment to the data of flow rates for each fluviometric gaging station, the minimum flows associated to the return period of 10 years (Q 7,10 ) were obtained. The values of the flow rates associated to the permanence times of 90% (Q 90 ) and 95% (Q 95 ) were obtained from the permanence curve of daily values in each fluviometric gaging station. In the regionalizations performed with application of either the methodology proposed by CHAVES et al. (2002) and that of the specific flow rate, it was tried to distinguish four possible situations: the interesting section is located at upstream of the station where the flow rate is known; the interesting section is located between two stations where the flow rates are known; interesting section is located at downstream of the station where the flow rate is known; and interesting section is located in an affluent channel from which the firth is between two fluviometric gaging stations of a superior-ordered channel. In either the methodologie by CHAVES et al. (2002) and the specific flow rates, the flow rate values were estimated by applying specific equations for each one of the previously mentioned situations, according to the localization of the drainage net in the section where the flow rate is to be known in relation to the existent fluviometric gaging stations. With the results of the minimum flow rates estimated on the basis of the three methodologies, as well as the values of the flow rates observed in the fluviometric gaging stations in the basin, the accuracy of the methodologies were evaluated by applying two indexes: relative error and the efficiency coefficient by Nash and Sutcliffe. According to the obtained results, the following conclusions may be drawn: the probabilistic models of Log-normal at two parameters and Log-normal at three parameters were the ones showing the best adjustment to the data of minimum flow rate with 7-days duration for the homogenous regions I and II, respectively; the drainage area and the total annual precipitation were the most expressive characteristics for representation of the flow rates regionalized by the ELETROBRÁS method for both homogenous regions studied; the interpolation and extrapolation methodology in the geographical information systems presented low efficiency in estimating the flow rates for the situations where the sub-basins involved into extrapolation or interpolation presented wide differences between the areas; the specific flow rate methodology was most efficient in estimating the flow rates under situations in which the section where the flow rate was determined is located between two fluviometric gaging stations with well-known flow rates; the best methodology for regionalization of the minimum reference flow rates in the sub-basin of the Paranã river was the one based on the regional regression equations, with an average relative error of 13.58% and an average efficiency coefficient by Nash and Sutcliffe of 0.97.
