The goals of this work were to evaluate the influence of AOA and AVG on the longevity of cut flowers of E. ibaguense; determine the effect of preservative solutions on the vase life of the specie; characterize physiologically the various stages of development in inflorescences of E. ibaguense, as well as the ethylene production, respiration and carbohydrates metabolism. Evaluate the effect of temperature, condition and duration of storage on the preservation and induction of chilling injury. Regardless the time and concentration, pulsing with AOA did not prolong the longevity of flowers, and the spraying with 1.5 mM AOA gave a vase life of 8 days. The use of AVG, in pulsing or spraying extended the longevity and reduced the abscission of flowers E. ibaguense. Inflorescences treated with vase solution (20 g/L sucrose, 150 mg/L-1 citric acid, 200 mg/L 8-HQC + 0.2 mM STS) or 20% sucrose pulsing for 12 hours promoted flower opening, reduced the percentage of abscission and prolonged the vase life, unlike the solutions Floralife®, Florissant® and Flower® as vase solutions. The flowers of E. ibaguense showed climacteric behavior for respiration and ethylene production. During vase life occurred differences in the carbohydrate metabolism as well as at stages of development. A linear increase in respiration between the temperatures of 5 and 30 oC was observed for the flowers kept in water, while for flowers stored under dry conditions, the increase in respiration was exponential between the temperatures of 5 and 25 oC, with similar rates to those determined in wet stored flowers. Production of ethylene by the inflorescence was maximal at 20 oC for flowers maintained in water, and at 35 oC for those flowers kept dry, followed by a sharp drop in both treatments. A maximal shelf life for the cut flower was obtained when the inflorescences were stored wet at 10 oC. The duration of cold storage promoted significant differences in physiological parameters during the opening and flower senescence of E. ibaguense.
