The gastrointestinal canal of the Coragyps atratus brasiliensis is composed of the esophagus, stomach and intestines medium and large. The esophagus has only one diverticule, tha crop. The stomach has two parts: the proventriculus or glandular stomach and the ventriculus or gizzard. Both the crop and the ventricule show little development, & condition related te feeding habit, which is predominantly carnívorous and necrophagous. The intestinal caeca are absent and the effective intestinal area is enlarged by the medium intestine extension and by folds of intestine mucous. The duodenum is long and presents, between its descendem and ascendem loops, one group of short loops. Feed cenduction is controlled by the pylorie valve, situated between the ventricule and the duodenum, and by constriction of the cloaca. There is no coli valve. In the crop, in the ventricule, and in the cloaca the pattern ef the mucous is related te the distension ef these organst. The longitudínai pattern of the felds of the esophagus and ventricular mucous and the almost smooth mucous of the ileus and the large intestine facilitate food conduction. On the medium intestine the mocous projections retain food for long periods of time, and are little involved with the extension of its walls.
