The taeniasis-cysticercosis complex is constituted of two distinct diseases. Taeniasis is caused by the presence of the Taenia solium or Taenia saginata adult forms in the human small intestine when the larval forms are ingested. The cysticercosis is caused by the presence of the larval form of the T. saginata that attacks cattle, or the T. solium, that attacks swine and human beings, when they ingest the eggs of the respective parasites. This research had the objective of evaluating the epidemiological profile of intestinal parasites in human and swine cysticercosis in the rural area of Viçosa-MG, through the determination of the prevalence of the swine cysticercosis and the human taeniasis, assess the correlation of intestinal parasites in human feces with socioeconomic factors and local sanitation, and the epidemiological survey of the sanitary conditions related to the feeding pattern and personal hygiene and swine rearing profile. A transversal study was accomplished involving 176 located properties in the rural area of Viçosa-MG, where blood samples of all the 226 swine were collected, the resident 266 people's feces and epidemic inquiry through a questionnaire on local sanitation, feeding pattern and personal hygiene and swine rearing profile. The parasitological diagnosis was made by the research of taenia eggs in the feces collected of 266 people by the Hoffman method, Pons and Janer (HPJ) and the serologic diagnosis of the swine cysticercosis accomplished by the ELISA test in 226 swine and the suspicious cases were submitted to the immunoblot for confirmation. 0,6% of the 176 properties were confirmed as positive for the swine cysticercosis, corresponding to 0,4% of the swine sampling. The coproparasitological exam revealed teníase absence and 43,6% of other parasitoses prevalence, being 8,27% with poliparasitism. 13,9% of Entamoeba coli, 11,6% of Endolimax nana, 7,1% of Entamoeba histolytica, 6,0% of Ascaris lumbricoides, 4,5% of Ancylostoma, 3,0% of Strongyloides stercorales, 2,2% of Giardia lamblia, 1,8% of Trichuris trichiura, 1,5% of Schistosoma mansoni and 0,4% of Enterobius vermiculares were observed. Among the geohelmintos, the Ascaris lumbricoides was the more prevalente and among the protozoa, the Entamoeba coli. Statistically associations were not found for the variables 'sex', 'age group' and ' family income' in relation to the positive results of enteroparasitosis (p>0,05). Among the responsible for the properties 99,4% are permanent residents, the family income rate was of R$622,00 and in 94,4% the number of people in the family varies from 1 to 5. In 83,5% the properties possess only 1 swine and in 88,1% the swine are always in the swine barn. In 97,7% the people feed of swine meat, very warm and in only 1,0% the destination of the sanitary sewer is to open sky; 80,7% possess vegetable garden and only 7,4% possess treated water. According to the results obtained it is considered that the rural area of Viçosa-MG is not an endemic area for the taeniasis-cysticercosis complex; however, it is important to maintain actions of sanitary and epidemic surveillance, because the risk factors of its transmission are present.
