Adaptações anatômicas da cavidade bucofaringiana de pseudoplatystoma corruscans (spix e agassiz, 1829) (siluriformes, pimelodidae) em relação ao seu hábito alimentar

Abstract

O estudo da anatomia funcional da cavidade bucofaringiana dos peixes é importante por permitir inferências a respeito do hábito alimentar, mecanismos de captura, seleção e processamento do alimento. Este trabalho teve como objetivos descrever e ressaltar adaptações da cavidade bucofaringiana de Pseudoplatystoma corruscans (surubim ou pintado), espécie de peixe da família Pimelodidae. Esta cavidade apresenta características estruturais intrinsecamente relacionadas com o hábito alimentar dos peixes. Pseudoplatystoma corruscans apresenta cavidade bucofaringiana com adaptações anatômicas ao hábito alimentar onívoro, sendo preferencialmente carnívoro, ictiófago. Esta espécie possui barbilhões de comprimento mediano; lábios delgados e lisos; fenda bucal ampla; pregas comissurais desenvolvidas; cavidade bucal com mucosa lisa; cavidade bucofaringiana extensa; dentículos viliformes dispostos em áreas dentígeras orais e faringianas; rastros branquiais pouco numerosos, rígidos, pontiagudos e curvados para a cavidade bucofaringiana; e áreas dentígeras faringianas pouco projetadas na cavidade faringiana.

The study of the functional anatomy of the buccopharyngeal cavity of fish is important in order to allow inferences regarding feeding habit, capture mechanisms, selection and processing of the food. This work describes and points out adaptations of the buccopharyngeal cavity of Pseudoplatystoma corruscans (surubim or pintado), a species of fish from the family Pimelodidae. The cavity displays structural characteristics intimately related with the feeding habit of the fish. Pseudoplatystoma corruscans has a buccopharyngeal cavity with anatomical adaptations to the omnivorous feeding habit, being predominantly carnivorous (ichthyophagous). These adaptations include: barbels of medium length; thin and flat lips; wide buccal split; developed commissural pleats; buccal cavity with a flat, mucous membrane; extensive buccopharyngeal cavity; villiform denticules disposed in oral and pharyngeal dentigerous areas; few, rigid and sharp gill-rackers, curved towards the buccopharyngeal cavity; and pharyngeal dentigerous areas slightly projected towards the pharynx
